I was spending $22/month on ElevenLabs for YouTube scripts and constantly hitting that 1hr 30min limit mid-project.
So he grabbed a subscription to GLM 4.7 — a Chinese LLM — for $28/year, and vibe-coded an offline voice cloner in 2 days.
GLM 4.7 for 90% of the code, Claude Opus only when the voice cloning logic got messy. Ended up with a portable Windows app — just extract the zip and run the bat file. No website, no installer, just a janky Python GUI that works offline.
Is it as polished as ElevenLabs? No. But it generates unlimited voiceovers without checking a credit dashboard every 5 minutes.
He put it on Gumroad and got 2 sales in 24 hours — paying for his entire year of GLM overnight 🤑
The gap between cheap open source and expensive closed AI is way smaller than we think.

What expensive AI subscription are you paying for? Writing tools, image generators, transcription services, SEO tools – if you’re paying $20+/month, there’s probably a vibe-coded DIY version waiting to be built.
